Two-factor authentication (2FA) mandatory in Nmbrs from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, two-factor authentication will be mandatory for everyone who logs in to Nmbrs — including employees with their own account. The current Nmbrs 2FA solution will be discontinued and replaced by Visma Connect. In this article, you will find out what is changing, what you need to do and how to inform your employees in good time.

Why this change?

Nmbrs contains sensitive data: salary information, bank account details and personal documents of more than 1.5 million people. A password alone is no longer sufficient to protect this information. Nmbrs is part of Visma, one of Europe’s largest software companies, and will therefore be transitioning to Visma’s central security infrastructure. The existing Nmbrs 2FA system will be deactivated and replaced by Visma Connect.

What is Visma Connect?

Visma Connect is the central login environment that Visma uses across all of its software products. The key advantage over the old Nmbrs 2FA: you choose how you want to verify your identity. Options include an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or the Visma Authenticator), SMS verification or Face ID. After the initial setup, you will log in with a single tap or your fingerprint — often faster than you were used to.

An additional benefit: with Visma Connect you only need to log in once for all of your Nmbrs accounts, using a single verification code.

Tip: set up two methods straight away as a backup, for example SMS and an authenticator app. This way you avoid problems if you ever lose your phone.

What is two-factor authentication?

You probably already know this from your bank or government services. After entering your password, you confirm your identity with a second step — for example a code via an app on your phone. This prevents someone else from logging in with your password alone.

Already using 2FA via Nmbrs?

Then you will need to take action. The current Nmbrs 2FA will be deactivated. You must set up 2FA again through Visma Connect. Here is how:

Go to home.visma.com and log in with the email address and password you have always used for Nmbrs. You do not need to create a new account. If you can log in without any issues, you are all set. You will then be asked to choose a verification method. Make sure to save the recovery code at the end.

Not yet set up 2FA?

Since 13 April, you are automatically guided to set up two-factor authentication when logging in. You only need to do this once. Go to home.visma.com, log in with your existing credentials and choose a verification method. Save the recovery code at the end — if you ever lose your phone, this is the only way to regain access.

Do you log in via SSO (Single Sign-On)?

Then authentication is handled by your own identity provider, such as Microsoft Entra ID or Okta. In this case, Nmbrs assumes that 2FA has already been set up and enforced within your SSO environment. The Visma Connect 2FA does not apply to you.

Lost access to your authenticator app?

If you have previously set up Visma Connect 2FA but can no longer access your authenticator app, you can request a recovery code via the Nmbrs Support request form. You will receive a backup code that allows you to log in again and set up 2FA from scratch.

During the setup process, you will receive an email from Visma with the sender address do.not.reply@mail.connect.visma.com. This is correct — please also check your spam folder if you do not see it appear.

Informing your employees

Since the 2FA requirement also applies to employees who log in to view their payslips, it is important to inform them in good time. Below you will find a ready-to-use template that you can copy and send to your employees.

Subject: New login method for the payroll software from 1 July 2026

Dear [name],

From 1 July, the way you log in to Nmbrs — the platform where you can find your payslip each month — will change. Nmbrs has decided to make two-factor authentication (2FA) mandatory for everyone. This means that in addition to your password, you will need a second step to confirm your identity.

You are probably already familiar with this from your bank or government services. It works the same way: you log in with your password and then confirm with a code on your phone or via an app.

From 13 April onwards, you will automatically be asked to set up 2FA when logging in to Nmbrs.

Kind regards,
[Employer name]
