The Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst) and the Benefits Agency (Dienst Toeslagen) are switching from ING to Rabobank on 1 May 2026. This means that all account numbers used for tax payments will change. This applies to all types of tax: payroll taxes, VAT, corporate income tax, personal income tax, dividend tax and benefits (toeslagen). In this article, you can read what is changing, what we are already arranging for you and what you need to do yourself.
What exactly is changing?
Only the bank and the account number are changing — the way you make payments remains the same. From 1 May 2026, the new Rabobank account number will appear on all payment information you receive from the Tax Authority, including tax assessments, provisional assessments and benefits notifications. Tax refunds will also be transferred from the new account number from that date onwards.

What are we arranging for you?
We will update the Tax Authority’s IBAN account numbers in your administration as much as possible in advance, so you do not have to worry about this. Once we have processed the new account numbers, we will notify you.
What do you need to do yourself?
We do not have access to your banking environment. This means you need to check whether you have saved Tax Authority account numbers in your online banking, standing orders or automated payment files. Whether action is required depends on how you make your payments:
Payments via iDEAL | Wero
When paying via iDEAL or Wero through the ‘Payments and receipts’ overview, the new account number is used automatically. No action is required on your part.
Direct debit (automatische incasso)
Nothing changes for direct debit payments either. The Tax Authority will switch the direct debit to the new account number themselves.
Online banking
If you pay via online banking, it is important to start using the new account number from 1 May 2026, as stated in the payment information accompanying your tax assessment. Additionally, update the account number in your online banking address book to avoid accidentally transferring to the old number.
Standing orders (periodieke overboeking)
If you have set up a standing order, you must update the account number as soon as you receive payment information with the new Rabobank account number. Do this as soon as possible.
Payments from abroad
For international wire transfers, you will need the IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code. The full bank details can be found in the block above. Make sure to include the correct payment reference (betalingskenmerk) as stated on your tax assessment.
Summary — your action points
- We will update the IBAN numbers in your administration — no action required from you.
- iDEAL | Wero and direct debit: no action required, this is handled automatically.
- Online banking: update the account number in your address book as soon as you receive the new number.
- Standing orders: update the account number as soon as possible.
- Batch or automated payment files: update the account numbers there as well.
- International transfers: use the new IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code (RABONL2U).
There is a grace period — but do not wait too long
If you accidentally transfer a payment to an old ING account number of the Tax Authority after 1 May 2026, your payment will still be received and processed correctly. There is a grace period in place. However, this is a temporary arrangement — it is important to update the account numbers as soon as possible to avoid problems in the long run.
Watch out for phishing
Unfortunately, criminals often exploit changes like these. If you receive a message containing an account number and you are unsure whether it genuinely comes from the Tax Authority, always verify the account number on the official Tax Authority list and follow the steps at belastingdienst.nl/phishing.
